Earth Day Island Clean Up
Earth Day Guemes Island Cleanup
The Island Clean Up will be held on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 1 PM to 3 PM.
How to clean an island in just 2 hours: Work together!
Groundfloor Guemes, a committee within the Guemes Island Community Center hosts the event with support from Skagit Public Works. This is the day to clear our roadways and beaches from trash and debris. Winter storms have planted a great deal of unwanted items in the beach wrack lines.
You can participate in this island-caring event in one of two ways:
• Meet at the School House Park at the corner of Edens Road and Guemes Island Road at 1 PM. Volunteers can then select from a list of designated beaches and roadways. Long-handled tongs and trash collection bags will be available. It is suggested that you bring work gloves to wear and water to drink.
• You may choose instead to clean your own beach or roadway. You may check out tongs and obtain trash bags if needed at the park at 1 pm. You may also use your own trash bags and containers.
Collected trash and any borrowed tongs must be brought to the School House Park no later than 3:00 pm. Truck support will be available that day as needed to assist in getting the collected trash and debris to the park. The trash will be removed from the island by Skagit Public Works.
Further information can be requested by contacting Holly Green at (360) 610-3829 or Edie Clark at (360) 399-5931.
Save the Date and join your island neighbors for a very satisfying and rewarding couple of hours. Help keep the island of Earth we call home healthy and lovely.
