Skagit County ADA Transition Plan
"The current proposed plan to "improve" the Guemes Island Ferry terminal on the Anacortes side eliminates several ADA parking spots near the terminal, removes any ability to drop off passengers or supplies at the terminal by removing the temporary parking spots, and eliminates the turn around zone for the city bus, school bus, or emergency vehicles....Please complete the survey and let Skagit County know that the current proposal is the opposite of improving ADA accessibility." The Need For Bus Service On Guemes Island
"During planned outages, Skagit Transit (SKAT) provides bus service on Guemes to accommodate the foot passenger only needs of islanders and visitors without a vehicle on the island. As this current outage was unplanned, no bus could be staged on the island side. If the island had full time bus service, these unplanned outages could be much less disruptive especially as the stated long-term back-up for ferry outages is a foot passenger only vessel." County Celebrates 60 Years of Ferry Operations

But in actuality, it was the 60th Anniversary of Skagit County taking over the full operation of the Guemes Island Ferry. There wasn't a Diamond Jubilee celebration, commemorative pins weren't passed out to ferry riders, no cake was cut, and mugs weren't made with the commissioner's smiling faces riding the Guemes. In fact, the day was much like the day 60 years ago as described by the Anacortes American on May 30, 1963, "No special bunting will be unfurled and commissioners, not anxious to get wrapped up in the business of running the ferry any more than they have to, plan no ceremony."" Guemes Island Ferry Insurance Analysis
"The creative accounting methodology of Resolution R20230020 needs to be amended and/or replaced to either exclude the Guemes Island Ferry altogether and/or put any additional claims not covered by the WCRP in a separate category by actual costs, not a percentage of overall county insurance premiums. The current resolution is unfair for the residents and visitors of Guemes Island who pay for a portion of this expense through fares. It is also unfair to the citizens of Whatcom County and Pierce County who rely on Skagit County using fair accounting principles when determining what is a routine O&M expense on the Washington State Ferry Deficit Report."
