Shell Statement Regarding Power Failure ANACORTES, WA -- April 24, 2009 -- At approximately 5:40pm on Thursday April 23, the Shell Puget Soud Refinery experienced an unexpected interruption of electrical feed from Puget Sound Energy. This loss of power caused the refinery to use its flare system. This resulted in visible flaring and smoke. Media reports of fire or explosion at the Shell Puget Sound Refinery are inaccurate. There are no injuries and all personnel are accounted for.
