Regular Commissioner Meeting

October 12, 2020

Commissioner Margeson called the Regular Fire Commissioners meeting to order at 7:09 pm. 

Because of COVID-19, the October 12, 2020 meeting was conducted virtually.

Present: Commissioners Margeson, Murphy, Crawford, Chief Snell, Assistant Chief Enos, Treasurer Davelaar, Secretary Kankaala 

The minutes of September 14, 2020 were unanimously approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Beginning September Operating Fund cash balance was $63,552.81. Beginning September General Investment Fund balance was $12,025.67.  Beginning September Capital Fund cash balance was $102,844.83. Beginning September Capital Investment Fund balance was $33,974.18. Grand total is $212,397.49.

September expenses were $1,416.92. Payroll for September was $2,562.48, and VFF stipends were $1,420.00. The grand total of expenditures in September was $5,399.40.

September revenue included $3,819.86 in taxes collected, $50.00 in donations, and $2.49 in interest. Total September revenue was $3,872.35.

District 17 Commissioners reviewed and approved the Treasurer’s Report, invoices, and firefighter stipends at their October 12, 2020 public meeting. Commissioner Murphy made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report, and Commissioner Crawford seconded; motion was approved unanimously.

November 8th Meeting Community Emergency Response Team has invited Chief Snell to speak at their zoom meeting.

The GIFD Website has been updated. A new website is currently being constructed.

Old Business: Accounts /Credit card transfer for the District 17 is still in the process of being transferred from Chief Francis to Chief Snell.

New Business: The District 17 commissioners have suggested and agreed to naming the meeting room in the fire station the “Jim Dugan Conference Room”, and the office in the fire station after the  “Gerry Francis Chief’s Office”. 

Barb Ohms has sent a letter to the District 17 commissioners, regarding the GIFD website, an evacuation plan for the island, hazard risk assessment, and risk reduction plans. GIFD values the input from the community and is eager and willing to engage with the community on the island.

For the 2021 Budget process, the District 17 commissioners are looking to increase the firefighter stipend increase. 

Commissioner Murphy made a motion to change the time of the November 9 Commissioner Murphy to 6:30pm, to accommodate the 2021 budget meeting. Commissioner Crawford seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. This will be Resolution 431.

The next resolution will be 432.

The next regular meeting will be November 9, 2020 at 6:30 PM. The meeting will be conducted virtually. 

The meeting adjourned at 7:54 PM.
